Welcome to Laid Back Lactation! We are a warm and welcoming support system for nursing families. We know breastfeeding can be stressful, at times overwhelming. Our consultants help breastfeeding parents address nursing issues such as latching pain, sore nipples, milk supply, baby not gaining weight, lip or tongue ties, and more. We also help build confidence and knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere.

We believe strongly in providing accurate and up-to-date information. We work with your healthcare team and support you not just during the hard times, but throughout your nursing journey. Our support continues after your first consultation: by phone, text and email.

And we remember that every experience is unique. We work with you to help define and meet your breastfeeding goals. We bring warm hugs, a sense of humor and zero judgment to each consultation. We look forward to working with you and your family.

Aetna

Laid Back Lactation is an in-network provider with Aetna (must be the primary insurance for coverage). For most Aetna plans, this means no out-of-pocket cost or copay for initial or follow-up consultations. We always encourage clients to contact Aetna to confirm their level of coverage.

In-Office Visits: Aetna covers at 100%

Non-Aetna

For clients with all other non-Aetna insurance companies, clients pay the full consult cost up front. Laid Back Lactation provides a superbill for the client to submit directly to the insurance company.

In-Office Visits: $325

Clients are encouraged to contact their individual provider to determine reimbursement eligibility for lactation care, which under the Affordable Care Act should be covered. The toolkit provided by the National Women’s Law Center is useful to read before communicating with the insurance provider.

Kind Words

Kind Words

... thanks and praise from our sweet clients

Elizabeth saved my experience while being an exclusive pumper postpartum. When I started working with Elizabeth I was exclusively pumping breastmilk for my daughter 7x per day, had an over supply, was clogging every week, was sleeping upright on a couch, and couldn’t lay down or play with my daughter comfortably. I felt lost attempting to navigate the world of pumping and my body’s difficulty adjusting to my supply. I worked with two lactation consultants prior to Elizabeth who had a negative/shaming viewpoint on pumping. I was inappropriately fit for flanges and ultimately felt lost and scared. I suffered mastitis and constant pain/discomfort from my clogging. Elizabeth made herself available to me constantly and provided hands on guidance to navigate me through the weaning process over a span of a few months without any pressure. Elizabeth was compassionate, empathetic, kind, and humorous. She bestowed her invaluable knowledge and resources every step of the way. Elizabeth comforted me that I wasn’t alone and wouldn’t suffer any further. I ended up experiencing two scary moments of pumping blood while working with Elizabeth and she was by my side immediately providing guidance. Something that was terrifying no longer felt bigger than me with Elizabeth’s presence. My husband/family and I regularly speak of Elizabeth in our household highly and I look forward to working with her in the event we have future children. I cannot recommend Elizabeth enough as a life boat during the challenging postpartum seas.
— Julie
Elizabeth is a cheerleader, supportive friend, wise lactation consultant and mentor. But above all, she truly cares about her clients and their children. Her warmth and love have helped me through so much more than breastfeeding. I love her in a way that only a mom who needs support can. It takes a village and I’m blessed that she is part of mine.
— Kelly P.
Elizabeth is more than just a brilliant lactation consultant, she is a trusted confidant, a devoted mother herself, and a selfless and loving friend.
— Erika P.
Elizabeth, you were a wonderful support through one of the most difficult trials I have ever faced. Your services were worth a million dollars—you’ve given D the foundation for a healthy, full life and we cannot thank you enough.
— Christina R.

Meet Elizabeth

elizabeth-devaney-lactation-IBCLC-nj.jpg

Elizabeth Devaney RN, IBCLC began her journey as a registered nurse over 25 years ago. During her hospital nursing career, she gained years of experience working in maternal-child health. Working with babies and parents along their feeding journeys. After nursing her children, she became deeply interested in lactation. This set Elizabeth on the path to earning her certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2009.

After becoming accredited, Elizabeth established her private practice, Laid Back Lactation, in 2013. Her hope was to assist the countless families that could not find the feeding support they so desperately needed after discharge from the hospital. With a firm belief that all parents deserve continued support coupled with her clear passion for lactation, her private practice grew solely through word-of-mouth. Since embarking on her path to supporting families with feeding their infants, Elizabeth has continued to strive to provide compassionate care that is rooted in her desire to see all families thrive by meeting them where they are and guiding them towards their goals.

When Elizabeth is not basking in working with babies and their families, you may find her bundled up in the stands of a hockey rink, cheering on her son, Patrick, as he takes to the ice. She also cherishes spending time with her college-aged daughter, Maggie, loves tending to her irises in the spring and walking her dog, Kors. Elizabeth and her husband, Steve, have been married for over 20 years and his support has helped her pursue her dreams of helping parents and babies.
